Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant, 19. yüzyılda oryantalizm akımının önemli temsilcilerinden biri olarak tanınır ve özellikle Kuzey Afrika, Orta Doğu ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'ndan sahneleri yansıtan büyük ölçekli tablolarıyla bilinir.
