Jean-Baptiste Vanmour, 18. yüzyılın başlarında Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nda yaşamış ve Osmanlı saray hayatı ile ilgili birçok sahne resmetmiş Fransız bir ressamdır. Vanmour ve onun izinden giden sanatçılar, Osmanlı'nın günlük yaşamını, saray içi törenlerini ve halkın sosyal yaşamını detaylandırarak Batı'ya tanıtmayı amaçlamışlardır.
Bu tablo, Dames du Palais du Sultan (Sultan'ın Sarayındaki Hanımlar) olarak adlandırılmış bir sahneyi betimliyor. Görüntüde, bir grup Osmanlı kadını, bir arabada ve çevresinde atlı süvariler eşliğinde görülmektedir. Önde oturmuş olan müzisyenler, egzotik bir atmosfer yaratmak için kompozisyona dahil edilmiştir.
